MY STORY

Scott Beresford

Scott Beresford is a Contemporary Artist who works in many mediums including 3D and digital. Loves to work with negative space and how that translates in different mediums and his work highlights our increasing over reliance on the digital world and the devices we use to communicate. He really enjoys taking a subject and seeing how far he can take it before it loses its meaning or message.

Scott has been known by other names including a family nickname of ‘Yoda’ and the self titled social media account ‘spiral reality’ which came from a period of spiral work and investigations into Fibonacci and the ‘golden ratio’.

Scott has had a love of art from a young age but the plan life gave him forced him to wait until later in life to fully explore his artistic side.

He found himself leaving and changing all of his career paths, of which there were many, as none fulfilled his creative desire.

Although these jobs did not serve his creative nature he picked up a plethora of transferable skills ranging through manual skills and familiarity with tools and techniques for more traditional methods.

Scott decided to return to education to improve his artistic skills in 2010 to complete an HNC in Contemporary Art Practice and was awarded with a place on the Art and Design degree course but circumstances in life forced him to resign his place on this course. A further lengthy wait before a return in 2018 to successfully complete his HND in Contemporary Art Practice.

Scott finds working digitally for sketchbooks and ideas the best way to trial ideas quickly allowing him to narrow down his response without destroying a rainforest in the process.

Scott tends to work digitally in all projects until his chosen response states otherwise. Even his sculptures start life on a screen in a notation app.

The paradox or contradiction created by working digitally while highlighting our over reliance on technology is something the artist enjoys playing with while attempting to highlight its impact, good or bad, on the environment.

This website is born out of a combination of the artists education, training and experience, which allows my perspective as an artist to remain contemporary.
